Montessori School and Durham Elementary Private School we
offer a number of special features and services of which
we are very proud.
Library
We are extremely fortunate to have the space and dedicated
hard-working volunteer to maintain our Library in the school.
It is stocked with books appropriate for the non-reader
up to the most advanced. Our librarian keeps the books well
organized and each class spends time with her in the library
each week. This is an opportunity for the younger children
to listen to a story and for the older children to select
and start reading his or her choice of book(s). Our library
also contains reference materials used by the DEPS students
for their research and project work. At this time we have
10 fully stocked library units. Books are up to date and
new titles are constantly being added. Book donations are
always welcome and parents often donate to our library.
Daycare
Daycare provides a safe place for your child while you are
at work. There is an opportunity for your child/ren to play
with some of our sports equipment, do homework, play games,
build structures with building toys and socialize. Daycare
is offered in our gymnasium where there is ample space for
these activities. The staff are warm and caring and will
liaise with you regarding your child's day if there has
been something significant to pass on.
Daycare is available before school from 7:00 a.m. to 8:45
a.m. and after school from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost
is calculated per hour, charged in 15 minute intervals.
Invoices are issued to families at the end of each month,
based on the time used by all of their children. A minimum
charge is levied for any invoice less than 2 hours.
Hot Lunch
An optional Hot Lunch Program is available at the school
on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The cost for this service
is paid monthly. A cook certified in the safe handling and
preparation of nutritious meals is on site. The meals are
creative, nutritious and well-balanced. A sample menu may
include: chicken nuggets and sauce, baked french fries,
cut-up raw vegetables, milk or juice, and fruit. The portions
are adjusted to the size of the appetite of the child. Extra
helpings are available.
Concerts
Every year the multi-talented students of Great Beginnings
Montessori School and Durham Elementary Private School put
on two concerts -- a Christmas Concert and a Spring Concert.
The Spring Concert is always a big stage production held
at the Oshawa Little Theatre. We usually play to an audience
of approximately 300 people, generally populated by proud
parents, grandparents, older siblings and other family members
who are both anxious and delighted to see our highly entertaining
shows. Some of our most popular productions include: Bugz
I Need a Vacation A Night at the Movies Once Upon a Rooftop
Music through the Ages.
